Morocco exported a record 56,700 tonnes of avocados worth US$179 million during the 2023/24 season, marking a 25% increase from the previous year, according to EastFruit.
📈 Significant Mid-Season Growth
- By mid-season 2024/25, Morocco had already exported nearly 42,000 tonnes, reflecting a 73% increase compared to the same period last year.
- Historically, the peak export period occurs between January and February, suggesting the possibility of surpassing the current record in the 2025/26 season.
🌍 Key Export Destinations
- Spain, France, and the Netherlands remain the top buyers of Moroccan avocados, accounting for over 80% of total exports.
- Switzerland, Belgium, and Portugal also saw a notable increase in imports.
- Exports to Canada and Turkey resumed after a temporary halt, further diversifying Morocco’s export reach.
🚢 Expanded Global Reach
- In the first half of the 2024/25 season, Morocco exported avocados to 25 countries, compared to only 19 countries for the entire 2023/24 season.
- This expanded market presence indicates Morocco’s growing influence as a key player in the global avocado trade.
